Strategic Aviation Services Partners with Volta Regional House of Chiefs to Advance Regional Mobility

Ho, Volta RegionIn a move to address long-standing mobility challenges in southeastern Ghana, Strategic Aviation Services (SAS) has presented a General Aviation proposal to the Volta Regional House of Chiefs (VRHC). The step signals the start of a transformative partnership aimed at leveraging aviation for socio-economic development.

The meeting, held at the House of Chiefs in Ho and chaired by its President, Togbe Tepre Hodo IV, provided a high-level platform for SAS to outline how aviation can serve as a “catalyst for survival and opportunity” in underserved communities across the Volta Region.

Addressing the "Distance Gap"

Led by Founder and Executive Director Asiwome Dzakuma, the SAS delegation emphasized that while the Volta Region is known for its agricultural potential and tourism assets, many districts remain constrained by limited transport access. Dzakuma noted that these infrastructure gaps have created  a “distance gap” that continues to limit the region’s full development potential.

“Mobility is not just about movement; it is about access to life-saving services and economic markets.”

Dzakuma was joined by pilot Charles Dzogbenuku and senior aviation technician Charles Melormey, who reinforced the operational and technical dimensions of the proposal. The team emphasized that in many parts of the region, distance is currently measured in missed opportunities.

“We are here to change that metric.”

Aviation as a Utility, Not a Luxury

The SAS initiative introduces General Aviation as a flexible, scalable complement to traditional road infrastructure. Unlike commercial airlines, GA can operate in shorter, less-developed airstrips, bringing "last-mile" connectivity to remote areas.

The proposed framework focuses on four key pillars:

  • Emergency Medical Services: Establishing rapid air-access corridors for urgent healthcare.
  • Agri-Logistics: Connecting smallholder farmers directly to high-value markets.
  • Tourism & Investment: Opening "hidden" destinations to international and domestic travelers.
  • Youth Empowerment: Building STEM and aviation training pathways to equip the next generation of Voltaian professionals.

The Power of Traditional Stewardship

Central to this initiative is a structured partnership with traditional authorities to guide implementation and community engagement. By collaborating with the Volta Regional House of Chiefs, SAS ensures that the development of aviation assets, including land use and community mobilization, is handled with cultural sensitivity and local ownership.

The House of Chiefs welcomed the proposal, recognizing the potential for aviation to accelerate the region's development goals. This collaborative approach ensures that the project is not merely an external intervention, but a locally-rooted solution.

The Path Forward

This engagement marks the first phase of a broader campaign. SAS will now move into a comprehensive needs assessment across key districts to identify viable aviation-supported corridors and align with national policy frameworks.

"The work being done today is foundational," the SAS team concluded. "We are laying the tracks; or rather, the flight paths, for a more resilient and prosperous Volta Region."
